From Passive Composter to Active Composter

Look what was waiting for me on my front porch when I arrived home from work yesterday!Well, not exactly this. My Eco-Composter w/ Base was not fully assembled with a woman in gardening apparel presenting it to me. Mine is in a box in about 1254 pieces. I guess we know what hubby will be doing this weekend ;-)

I bought my composter from Costco and the day after I bought it the site said “due to overwhelming demanding, we are currently sold out”.

That is so great! This means that a lot of people are going to start composting. This is one bandwagon that I am happy people are jumping on.

The specs on this composter are as follows:
  • 71-Gallon Capacity
  • Made of 100% Recycled Materials
  • Compost-Tumbler

Being made from recycled materials was a huge selling point for me. So was the ability to roll it around the yard (I figured the kids would get a kick out of doing that). It also has some aerated system that is suppose to quicken the composting process (I will keep you posted on that)

I really can’t wait to get it all set up and go from a Passive composter to an Active composter! I am so excited about this.

I also can’t wait to transfer the bucket of food scraps that is currently on my back porch into the composter! (the crows keep digging through it and taking the egg shells, not sure what that is about)

Those that compost say that there is a learning curve to it. I will have to remind myself of that so I won’t get too disappointed if the first batch does not come out perfectly (I have this picture in my mind of opening the door and finding the bin half full of beautiful dark soil)

Wish us luck!

What a great idea. I have a huge compost hole right now where I live. But once I move to Guatemala, I'll be living the city life and really have no idea what I'm going to do about composting. But I'm getting some ideas:)

That is 1 huge composter and seems like quite a task to put together. Let us know how it works out. Maybe your husband could pose (wearing a nice straw hat) in a picture for us when he is finished:)

I instantly pictured him in the same straw hat and had to laugh. Thanks for the morning chuckle!

I hear that there are some great under the counter small worm composters that work really well and don't smell. Maybe you can get one of those Marina. If you do, you will have to tell us about it. Good luck with the move!

Thanks Lisa. If you have any words of advice I would love to hear them. Now that this huge contraption is all assembled I have to say that I am a little intimidated by it. ;-)
