I just recently learned of this directories existence and am enjoying browsing through it and learning what it has to offer.
The Directory of Certified Compostable Products lists products that have been tested and certified to be biodegradable in a managed composting facility. To be listed on the site, a company must submit its products for testing at a certified laboratory.
- Certified Compostable Packaging Materials
- Certified Compostable Resins
- Certified Compostable Foodservice Items
- Certified Compostable Bags
- Certificates No Longer Valid
The website also lists other resources such as:
The Biodegradable Products Institute worked with ASTM and its members to develop acceptable standards for biodegradable products that truly biodegrade and have no detrimental impact on composting, agriculture or soil.
- All About Composting. Including what it is, how it's made, and why you should compost.
The Biodegradable Products Institute is the not-for-profit association made up of key individuals and groups from government, industry and academia that put together the BPI-approved products list.
"Through our innovative compostable label program, we educate manufacturers, legislators and consumers about the importance of scientifically based standards for biodegradable materials. We also promote the use and recovery of compostable materials through municipal and backyard composting."
If you have a few minutes I would suggest checking out the website. Its pretty interesting. (At least I thought it was)
